Montezuma Bluffs Wildlife Management Area; Saturday, March 19, 2016
*** Notice – Important ***
At this time local knowledge is indicating the River at the bluffs is running high.  If this high river stage continues to the Field Trip date it will make a long day of travel frustrating and unproductive for the Orange Tips.  Consequently it is possible this Field Trip could get cancelled.   Please check-in with the website www.naba-hairstreak.com/ to check on status.  We will be putting a simple notice on the front page.
We will be exploring Bluffs and looking for the target species, Falcate Orangetip.  Other species that will be on the target species list will include Mourning Cloak and Eastern Comma.
To carpool, meet at 7:00 AM at the Village Square Blvd shopping area, at the eastern end near Newks. If you would rather meet us at Montezuma Bluffs (Montezuma Bluffs Wildlife Management Area, Crooks Landing Road, off GA 49 North, Montezuma, GA 31063) we expect to muster and start the Field trip from there at 10:30 am.  Be at the parking lot at 10:30 AM. IF YOU CHOOSE TO MEET US THERE, PLEASE CONTACT BRIAN LLOYD AHEAD OF TIME SO WE KNOW TO EXPECT YOU! Take SR 49 2.3 miles north from Montezuma to Crooks Landing Road.  The entrance will be on your left.
Be sure to bring close-focusing binoculars, water, and a lunch.  For more information about Montezuma Bluffs http://www.exploregeorgia.org/listing/3224-montezuma-bluffs-wildlife-management-area
If you have questions, please contact Brian Lloyd, 850-212-0058 or email at Blloyd@Lloyd-usa.com

Spring Canyon; Saturday, March 26, 2016
Spring Canyon is a private property in Gadsden County that belongs to Helen Roth who has graciously allowed our chapter to lead a field trip on her property to look for the Brown Elfin. We will hike around the pond and up and down the edges of the ravines which have good stands of Mountain Laurel as well as some Flame Azaleas and Big Leaf Snowbells.
The Brown Elfin, our target species for this trip was first documented in Florida in 2009 by Mary Ann Friedman of Niceville when she found it in Okaloosa County, FL. The Brown Elfin utilizes Mountain Laurel as its larval host plant. We should also see a number of pierids and swallowtails.
To carpool from Tallahassee, meet at 9:00 AM at the Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) building parking lot on Commonwealth Blvd. near the intersection of I-10 and Capital Circle Northwest. You can also meet us at Spring Canyon on Church Pond Rd. IF YOU CHOOSE TO MEET US THERE, PLEASE CONTACT VIRGINIA CRAIG AHEAD OF TIME SO WE KNOW TO EXPECT YOU!
From I-10, Chattahoochee/Torreya State Park exit 166: north onto 270A (Flat Creek Rd). Turn left onto 269 (Little Sycamore Rd). Merge right onto 270 (Sycamore Rd). Immediately turn left onto Potter Rd and then make a right onto Church Pond Rd- no street sign but the dirt easement road is identifiable by an orange gate that will be open. Drive down hill and bear left to picnic area.
This is an all-day trip. Be sure to bring close-focusing binoculars, insect repellent, water, and a lunch. You may also want to wear sturdy hiking shoes as well as a hat and long-sleeve shirt for sun protection.
If you have questions, please contact Virginia Craig at vdellcraig@centurylink.net or call (850) 445-2226.
